How does Connecticut rank in workplace safety?

Connecticut recently ranked as one of the safest places in the United States. Specifically, it was rated No. 6 in the nation for overall safety in a report by WalletHub. However, this report also points to workplace safety as an area that the state has a fair amount of room for improvement in.

In coming up with the overall safety rankings, the study looked at five different categories. One of these categories was workplace safety. Connecticut’s rank in this category was much more middling than its overall rank. It failed to make the top 10, or even the top 20. Rather, it was ranked 22nd in workplace safety.

As a note, the study points to the state doing a little better than its neighbors when it comes to workplace safety. Rhode Island, New York, and Massachusetts all ranked worse than Connecticut in this category. They ranked No. 24, No. 30 and No. 31 respectively.

And there was one workplace safety factor that Connecticut did particularly well in. The report found the state to have the lowest workplace fatality rate in the nation.

So, Connecticut’s performance in the report when it comes to workplace safety is something of a mixed bag. How safe do you feel Connecticut workplaces are in general? Are there any safety dangers you see as being a particularly big problem in such workplaces?

How safe workplaces are has major impacts on the everyday life of workers. So, one hopes that future years will see Connecticut move up the ranks when it comes to such safety. What do you think would most help with this?
