Fatality as a result of motor vehicle accident involving a pediatric nurse traveling between shifts. Resolved before Formal Hearing (trial) following contest by insurance carrier as to whether the accident occurred within the course of employment. Widower-dependent claim settlement in the amount of $350,000.00 to include burial costs and benefits paid to the widower.

Specific and Repetitive Trauma Injury of the Lumbar Spine (Lower Back)

Machinist; employee of 30 years with manufacturer of helicopter parts. Settlement in the amount of $234,872.00 to include resolution of indemnity and medical benefits resulting in impairment of the lumbar spine (back) following specific and subsequent repetitive trauma injury.

Traumatic Injury of the Right Upper Extremity (Shoulder, Elbow)

Truck driver. Settlement for $140,000.00 reflecting lost wages, impairment of the right upper extremity (shoulder) post-surgery and recovery. Employee obtained new job following retraining through the State of Connecticut (Department of Workers’ Rehabilitation) and currently earns higher wages than pre-injury.

Police Officer (Municipality) Sustains Physical Injuries Following Altercation Between Parties

Police Officer injured lower back within the scope of employment and physical altercation. Settlement in the amount $148,346.65 reflecting future indemnity, impairment benefits and cost of future medical treatment based on substantiation from the treating physician.

Electrician Injured While Descending a Scissor-Lift

Electrician descending a scissor-lift in warehouse sustained multiple injuries to master upper extremity (shoulder) and cervical spine (neck). Following several courses of conservative treatment and diagnostic measures, settlement negotiated and approved for $106,000.00 following discovery, deposition testimony and prior to Formal Hearing. Consideration paid for retroactive lost time benefits, estimate of prospective impairment benefits and the cost of future medical care.

Intake Nurse – Covid-19 (Complications and “Long Haul” Diagnosis)

Intake Specialist (nursing home) contracted Covid-19 from exposure during initial stages of pandemic (and during the Governor’s Executive Order announcing the presumption period. Undisclosed settlement amount reflecting lost time through the date of the Stipulation, as well as cost of future and estimated medical care. Settlement for medical funding approved by Medicare (CMS) based on an MSA allocation analysis.

Bus Driver – Covid-19 Exposure

Bus Driver. Covid-19 exposure and resultant complications requiring intubation in the Intensive Care Unit, subsequent convalescence and focused medical care. Settlement for $250,000.00 reflecting retroactive payment of lost time benefits, cost of future and estimated medical care. Resolution of group health insurance lien prior to Stipulation approval.

Significant Back Injury Sustained by Auto Body Painter and Technician

High-Scale Automotive Body Painter and Technician. Sustained twisting injury diagnosed as both a physical injury and the result of repetitive motion by his treating physician. Following surgery and a resultant impairment rating, settlement for $275,000.00 reflecting prospective impairment benefits and the cost of future medical care.

Traveling Nurse Injured Neck and Back at a Client’s Home While in Connecticut (Connecticut Employer – Out of State Resident/ Georgia)

Nurse residing outside of Connecticut injured by way of fall during course of her employment caring for a client within Connecticut. Following nurse’s move back to resident state, she sought treatment and benefits related to her underlying and compensable injuries (accepted claim). Settlement in the amount of $84,000.00 based on carrier’s exposure for lost time following the loss in Connecticut and to compensate claimant for cost of future medical care.

Head, Traumatic Brain Injury, Shoulder and Internal Injuries Sustained in Motor Vehicle Accident (Ejection From Vehicle) by Employee Transported to Work by Employer

Employee in process of being transported to place of employment with a company van ejected from vehicle in collision sustained multiple and traumatic life-threatening injuries. Following compensation and treatment of said injuries during a multiple year period, settlement in the amount of $275,000.00 paid reflecting impairment of all affected body parts (to include brain and shoulder) and cost of future medical care. Settlement figure reflected consideration after a third party “moratorium” or credit against workers’ compensation claim established.

Wrist/Elbow Injury as a Result of Multiple Complex Fracture From a Slip and Fall on Employer Premises

Employee of wire/cable manufacturer fell on premises causing multiple fractures of the wrist and elbow (non-master). Following surgical repair and revision procedures, settlement reflecting consideration of assessed impairment (rating of the wrist and upper extremity) in the amount of $41,159.95. Employee obtained employment through retraining (DWR) and obtained increase from pre-injury wages.

Construction Worker Sustained Neck, Upper Extremity Injuries While Performing Heavy Labor

Employee was injured after thrown backward while operating a cement mixer. Settlement for $517,000.00 included allocation of $70,000.00 set-aside for future medical treatment following cervical and shoulder surgeries as a result of the work injury.

Widow of Long Distance Truck Driver Who Suffered Work Related Heart Attack

Employer denied claim, which went to trial. Widow prevailed and employer appealed to the Supreme Court of Connecticut. Court affirmed and widow awarded lump sum in excess of $500,000.00, plus $160,000.00 in penalties. In addition, widow is to receive $40,000.00 a year for life, plus cost of living adjustments (COLAs).

Mechanic With Bilateral Knee Injuries

$470,000.00 settlement based on the injured worker’s medical and vocational disabilities following a work-related knee injury and bilateral knee surgeries.

Truck Driver Lifting Pallets During Delivery

Compensation paid resulting in full and final settlement of $100,000.00 following lost time and permanent partial disability of the neck, and both upper extremities.

Salesman Injured in Work-Related Motor Vehicle Accident

$386,000.00 full and final settlement to include cost of potential bilateral hip surgery and other medical costs to be placed in self-administered Medicare Set Aside trust, value of temporary total disability benefits future permanent partial disability benefits as assessed by the claimant’s treating physician.

Registered Nurse Injured at Facility While Lifting a Patient

$96,000.00 full and final settlement to include $30,000.00 in indemnity benefits and remainder to be self-administered in Medicare Set Aside trust accounting for future medical costs.

Construction Worker Residing in New Jersey Injured at Connecticut Job Site

$187,500.00 full and final settlement to include cost of prospective lower back surgery and future indemnity benefits.
